WoW Stormrage Novel Review

March 3rd, 2010

Look here for taking a review at this WoW Stormrage Novel here. The latest novel in Blizzard’s lore series, Stormrage, has hit the shelves bringing about a ton of World of Warcraft lore. It details the return of Malfurion in time for Cataclysm, the internal war between the Druids and the Sisters of Elune, and much more. Is the book really worth the price and time? Well, we’ve read the entire book and have an answer for you. You’ll have to read our review to find that out

Stormrage

Richard A. Knaak

WoW Stormrage Novel

Average Retail: $15-25
Pages: 432
ISBN-10: 1416550879
ISBN-13: 978-1416550877

Author’s Website: richardaknaak.com
Stormrage is not to be confused with the upcoming Cataclysm series being released that details the events leading up to the expansion. Instead WoW Stormrage is a look at the modern events mostly focused around Tyrande Whisperwind, Broll Bearmantle, and Malfurion Stormrage along with the sickness and corruption that has plagued Teldrassil.

It’s a very peculiar book because it handles the modern day lore instead of the lore of past (like most books). This means we get to read about events that are happening in the “now” instead of 20 years ago or 10,000 years ago. It’s an impressive thing to know what you’re reading in the book is something that’s about to come into the actual game. While we’re not going to see a lot of the Emerald Dream, we are going to be seeing Malfurion return angrier than ever.

On to the book! The book weighs in at about 400 pages in a small hardback frame. A good five to eight hours of reading for the average reader, longer if you’re slow or if you reread parts. It’s a good length for a novel that is full of important Warcraft lore because it’s long enough to tell you what’s needed but short enough not to waste your time with too many unimportant details. Speaking of details, the book is full of them.

Important details that include Malfurion’s return, tons of plot lines that had no resolution or were open, tons of character cameos like Naralex (Wailing Caverns) and Renferal (Alterac Valley), and the corrupted green dragons added long ago (Lethon and Emeriss) that were once open world raid bosses. A lot of detail went into the book to make sure it felt completely connected to the Warcraft universe and it shows.

There are some characters you may not be familiar with like Broll Bearmantle and King Varien (as he appears in the outside media) which are from World of Warcraft: The Comic. Sorry Valeera fans, she’s only mentioned a few times.

Overall I found the book to be an enjoyable experience because it shares so much lore involving the Druids, the ongoing tension between the Druids and the Sisters of Elune (Arch Druid Fandral Staghelm to be specific), Malfuion Stormrage, and the Emerald Dream. You will learn a lot in this book about all of these subjects and more. It starts off strong, gets stronger, and then finishes with a nice touch. I won’t spoil the details, but the ending itself is very strong and adds to the enjoyment of the book.

However, sadly there is one slight problem. This is a Knaak book, which means that Knaak’s tendency to add in his original characters shows up. For the uninitiated, Knaak has this “knack” for adding in characters that many in the fandom do not like. For instance, Night of the Dragon became a time traveling tale so that Rhonin, Krasus, and Broxigar could be a part of the War of the Ancients (all his original characters). Luckily, I am happy to report that this book only has one of Knaak’s characters (outside of a few mentions here and there) and while annoying, only played a small role in the book as a whole.

The book also suffered words that didn’t need repeating as much. For instance, “orbs” instead of “eyes”  and the overuse of “macabre” could ruin the immersion momentarily for some. Not to mention the in-depth details of every Druid’s form and a plethora of unnecessary explanations.

Before I drive the negative train too far (and don’t get me wrong this was a good book), I would like to stop and expand on how there were many very good explanations for many things players wouldn’t know without reading the entire library of WoW novels. Knaak makes sure to explain for the novices out there events that might not be known unless you follow the comic or read the books. This is a major plus because even though I know these facts, others may not. This is a very newbie friendly book in that regard, not to mention the further reading section expanding on those explanations.

So, should you read this WoW Stormrage Novel? I would say yes. There are some problems (I didn’t find it as tight of a book as the Arthas one was), but a lot of it can be easily overlooked as small annoyances when compared the information about the current lore that you gain. If you’re someone who likes to read and loves WoW then this wouldn’t be a bad choice to throw into your pile of books you want to read.

If you’d like more information about the book, including how to order it, you can view the book’s amazon.com listing right here.

In Summary

Pros

  • Details storylines that aren’t covered in a lot of the lore.
  • 400 Pages long, easy to read in a short period of time, but long enough to satisfy.
  • Contains extra details at the end to explain some of the connections and where they come from.
  • Interesting story and a must for lore fans.
  • Knaak’s orignal characters aren’t part of the main plot.

Cons

  • Writing style can become confusing at times, especially when everyone is traveling somewhere else and towards the end.
  • Overuse of words like “macabre,” “orbs,” and other phrases can ruin immersion.
  • Knaak’s new original character is annoying.
  • Entire book requires you to love and know about Warcraft to “get it,” which isn’t so much of a con if you’re a WoW player.
Is the book worth it? Yes, if you’re a major lore fan, Knaak’s writing style can be off-putting but it’s nowhere near as bad as Night of the Dragon and the lore makes up for it. No if you’re not and just want to read a random book.

WoW Glorenzelg, High-Blade of the Silver Hand

March 13th, 2010

Today we are going to talk about the WoW Glorenzelg, High-Blade of the Silver Hand here! Know anything about it? How to get it? Ok, be at ease, read this little and then you will get everything you should know about here.

Yes, Glorenzelg, High-Blade of the Silver Hand lives on multiple best-in-slot lists. At least, those BIS lists that don’t include Shadowmourne and other Heroic content.

My favorite aspect of this epic blade is that it’s blade from the Silver Hand, which is a more than significant bit of game lore. Since this weapon drops from Arthas, I think it’s fairly clear that he somehow had been hoarding it (and other weapons) after having captured the weapon in combat.

For retribution paladins, this blade is especially attractive. I mean, the weapon is great for all of the two-handed DPS classes. But the weapon has a lot of strength, critical strike rating, and expertise, yet completely avoids wasting itemization points on armor penetration. This aspect makes it wonderfully suited to the class that has almost no use for ArP.

Sadly, though, Glorenzelg continues the trend of duct tape. Apparently, when the Lich King stole the weapon from the Silver Hand, he had to bind it back together. He chose to repair the weapon with skull-themed duct tape. That’s okay. There’s not much that the liberal application of some duct tape won’t fix.

Name: Glorenzelg, High-Blade of the Silver Hand
Type: Two-Hand Sword
Damage: 895 - 1344 Damage (311.0 damage per second)
Speed: 3.60
Attributes:

  • 181 Strength
  • 197 Stamina
  • 2 Red Sockets
  • Socket Bonus: +6 Strength
  • Equip: Improves critical strike rating by 115 (2.51% @ L80).
  • Equip: Increases your expertise rating by 99 (12.08 @ L80).

How to get it: Get a raid together, including 24 of your best friends. As you methodically improve your skills, eventually approach and kill Arthas. He has a 30% chance or so of dropping this weapon. (At least, as of the time of this writing.)
How to get rid of it: If you’re not about to pick up a Heroic version of the weapon, or perhaps Shadowmourne, don’t. That being said, it breaks into an Abyss Crystal or sells for 31 gold, 57 silver, and 15 copper.

How do you think of this WoW Glorenzelg, High-Blade of the Silver Hand? Maybe you can get one and maybe it will be helpful for you! Fine, we have lots of cheap wow gold is waiting for you, you may buy wow gold with fast delivery to cope with your difficulties in the game now.

New Planet: SWTOR Belsavis and Blood of the Empire Webcomic Announced

March 13th, 2010

According to the official news, Star Wars: The Old Republic : New Planet: Belsavis and “Blood of the Empire” Webcomic Announced here. So this post is divided into two parts. First, we would take a look at the new planet, SWTOR Belsavis, and then about the Blood of the Empire Webcomic here.

Now let’s take a look at the Belsavis here:

Republic knowledge of Belsavis predates the Great Hyperspace War, but for centuries, the planet warranted little attention. With the exception of some unusual volcanic activity, the planet was deemed, in all ways, unremarkable. Belsavis was added to the star charts then summarily dismissed as nothing more than another curiosity of the Outer Rim.

Fifty years ago, while investigating the planet’s tropical rifts that seemed to defy the ice shelves in completely unnatural ways, Republic scientists stumbled upon an ancient prison constructed by the Rakatan Empire. Behind the force fields and ultra hard metals were the most terrifying prisoners in the galaxy. Republic efforts to explore and secure the dilapidated network of vaults were impeded by ferocious alien species, and nearly unstoppable droids.

Realizing it was only a matter of time before the vaults and stasis chambers containing the worst of these prisoners failed, the Republic committed a force to maintain the complex, and establish a new Republic prison on Belsavis¡¯ unused surface. In secret Strategic Information Service meetings it was decided that this new prison, dubbed “the Tomb”, was only to be used in cases where execution was impractical or impossible.

Once the Great War erupted, the Tomb’s population rapidly increased. Mandalorians, Sith Lords, and creations of Sith alchemy were sent to Belsavis for containment. As rumors of the Tomb¡¯s existence spread, Imperial Intelligence began searching for the legendary super prison. Despite Republic efforts to keep its location a secret, the Empire learned of the operation on Belsavis and sent strike teams to liberate all the imprisoned Sith.

In the short time since the Imperials arrived, the prison grounds have been transformed into a labyrinth of battle and chaos. The Empire has discovered that extracting its loyal subjects from among their violent fellow inmates will not be easy, and even though the Republic is rushing to restore order, the threat of the mysterious evil breaking loose from its ancient prison is becoming all too real.

And we also know that Blood of the Empire Webcomic is also coming for us.

BioWare™ and LucasArts have once again teamed up with Dark Horse to create this original comic series published entirely online. Blood of the Empire features a new perspective and strong character-driven story written by BioWare’s Senior Writer Alexander Freed and published by Dark Horse.

Set in the years before the Treaty of Coruscant and the establishment of peace between the great galactic powers, Blood of the Empire sets the stage for The Old Republic with new heroes, new villains and new revelations about the inner workings of the Emperor’s cabal.

Be on the lookout for the release of the first issue of SWTOR Blood of the Empire coming soon on the Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ website. Get a sneak peek at the series now!

Huh, if you are interested in getting more Star Wars: The Old Republic news, remember us and visit often, we would keep an eye on it for you always.

Final Fantasy XIV Battle Theme

The interview discusses a number of general game mechanics, now read the detailed info from the original source in Final Fantasy XIV Battle:

Dengeki Playsation is out this week and has a lot of great insight from the developers! Dengeki asked questions about each class and about the beta test and battle in general. The last page was one long interview with side commentary by the writer and the editor. They sound like some of us talking about this news on the Core, and I thought you might enjoy it.

First thing’s first, let’s get that interview out at you! We’ll be adding more as it is translated, and Aya and I are working diligently to get you the tidbits you crave.

Don’t forget yesterday’s news bonanza, including magic, crafting, and gathering classes, and a download of the battle theme released on the Japanese website! If you haven’t seen our post yet, what are you waiting for?

Update #2: Writer and Editor commentary on alpha screen shot added and gladiator Q & A added.
Update #3: Marauder and archer Q & A added.
Update #4: Conjurer and thaumaturge Q & A added.
Update #5: Pugilist and lancer Q & A added.
Update #6: Miner and blacksmith Q & A added.

Special Q&A with Developers

We’re learning more and more about FFXIV, but it’s still not enough! We had an interview with the developers to shed a little more light on everything for us.

Beta test
Q: How long will the ffxiv beta test be?
A: We’re actually trying to figure that out ourselves.

Q: About how much will be playable in the beta version?
A: Not even half. We want to balance the game while revealing as little as we can. We’ll start with an alpha test, but there will hardly be anything in it at all. That way it’s easier to implement users’ opinions into the game.

Q: Please tell us the recommended specs for the Windows alpha and beta tests.
A: At this point we’re trying to adjust the game to fit computers as well as possible, so the alpha test may require quite a powerful CPU. The graphics board must be DirectX 9 compliant, but should work with graphics boards from a few years ago. 512MB of VRAM should be enough. More detailed specs will be available on the ffxiv beta test site.

Q: Will the beta test ffxiv start at the same time for PS3 and Windows?
A: The alpha test will only be for Windows, but we’re not sure about the beta test yet.

(The supervising writer and supervising editor have a few asides written into the article)
Editor: Looks like it’s going to start pretty soon!
Writer: I wonder how long the alpha test is going to be. Maybe a month?
Editor: The alpha test will probably run for about a month, and the beta is said to last for six months. I wonder if we’ll be able to use a controller in the windows version?

Q: Will FFXI players be able to bring over their friends lists and other community-related things to FFXIV?
A: We don’t have anything specific planned yet, but we’d like FFXI players to be able to play on the same world as the friends they played with together in FFXI.

Q: 9 classes have been released so far, but will these all be playable in the FFXIV Beta? Also, will these classes be available when making a character for the beta test?
A: Yes, they won’t be fully functional, but they will be playable.

Q: Will there be more classes available to play in the beta test?
A: We’re not sure yet.

Q: What do you think the roles of each class are?
A: We kind of broke it down like this:
Gladiator: Defender of the weak and defeater of the strong. He is the party’s greatest defense. For all-around players.
Pugilist: The front-line brawler. The pugilist needs to think on his feet to control his stances. He’s the party’s jump-into-the-fray role. Made for people who don’t sweat the small stuff.
Lancer: A physical fighter who attacks from a distance, the lancer must have the power to make decisions based on the situation. The party’s last line of defense. For the tactical player.
Marauder: A powerful, overpowering, macho attacker. The trump card in ffxiv battle. Made for those who want the most glorious parts of the battle.
Archer: The sniper who watches the battle from afar and waits for his chance to strike. The party’s shortstop. For people who love being alone.
Conjurer:The support role who can change his role in battle from attacker to defender to healer based on the situation. For those who like to be in control.
Thaumaturge: The party’s strategist that controls everything in the field through status-changing magic. For those who like to plan out their battles.
Miner: The gatherer of all-important metals sold in the markets. A rare find can make him a lot of money. For those who like to work at something little by little.
Blacksmith:The repairer and crafter of metal-based weapons and tools. He never hungers for customers. For those who enjoy working with customers.

Writer: I’m glad we can use any of these classes from the beginning.
Editor: There will be close- and long-range disciplines of war, so there should be some balanced parties, too. I wonder if the gladiator’s first weapon is a short sword?
Writer: I bet other weapons are sold at shops!
Editor: And that the weapons sold at the shops are different depending on the country!

Character customization

Q: Will players be able to choose their tribe, like the Miqo’te sun seekers and moon seekers?
A: In the ffxiv beta test, you can choose your race and tribe.

Q: Sun seekers are supposed to have darker skin and the nocturnal moon seekers are supposed to have lighter skin, so will this limit the color selection for skin by tribe?
A: A bit. The plan is more to have a wide selection of options based on a certain theme.

Q: How detailed will character customization be in the beta test?
A: You’ll be able to choose your basic face type, your hair, skin, and eye colors. There won’t be many details available during the test.

Q: Will there be bonuses for starting as a certain race in a specific capital? If there is, will the starting capitals be different based on tribes?
A: We don’t have any plans to that extent so far, but if we get a lot of requests for it, we might do it.

Writer: I’m really glad the tribes were actually implemented in the game and you can actually select your tribe.
Editor: I know they said there would only be a few options for character customization at first, but I love customization, so it would probably take me about two hours. What should I do if someone takes my name in that time?!
Writer: Why don’t you just make a random character with the same name to reserve the name?

Classes

Q: In the classes listed so far, some weapons from FFXI, such as the great sword, great scythe, and staff, have not been listed. Will they also be making an appearance in FFXIV? If they do, will some of them be included in certain existing classes, like a great-sword wielding gladiator? Or will they be completely different classes?
A: We can’t tell you when we’ll be presenting them, but you can be sure they’ll be there. We’re going to let you sweat a bit more on whether or not they’re going to be linked to other classes.

Q: It’s been said that adventurers can change classes at any time during an adventure, but is there some limit to this? Like, only being able to carry three weapons at a time, or something to that extent¡
A: Nothing yet, but it’s possible we will implement something later.

Q: Will you be able to change classes during ffxiv battle? If it’s only possible outside of battle, will you be able to change classes my sheathing your weapon while your party battles?
A: There are two modes in FFXIV: A passive mode, where players can restore HP while walking, and an active mode, where they enter a battle stance with weapons drawn. Players can only change their class in passive mode.

Writer: So HP can be restored while moving.
Editor: I bet HP recovery speed changes depending on whether you are moving or resting.

Q: About how many people make up your average party? Do alliances exist?
A: The average party will probably be between six and eight people, but there are many flexible ways to adventure where you can go out with more or less people than that, and even play solo. Of course, we also have something like alliances in the works. Battles are planned to be party-versus-party oriented. Battles are not so much focused on dealing direct damage as they are on finding the right position to attack from for the best attacks. First, you’ll have to find the best distance and method of attack, and then the trick will be to keep that positioning. This is important not just for damage and accuracy, but also for certain attack effects (like the pole arms ability to stop an enemy’s movement) and other things in battle. Also, and this is true especially for the magic classes, but there are many skill and spells that have special types of effect areas (like the conjurers’ circle and the thaumaturges’ cone). Not only that, but the position of the focus of the effect, be it yourself or another target, also becomes important. Furthermore, direction is also a factor. Hitting the enemy’s blind spot, calling an enemy’s attention to a certain direction, and other things will all have an effect on the battle. “Distance,”"range,”and “direction”are the most important themes in battle in FFXIV, and intermediate to advanced players will always want to have these things in mind.

Writer: FFXI focused on battles against single targets, but it looks like FFXIV is going to be really different.
Editor: I wonder if the number of people in the party is so high because it includes disciplines of hand and land?
Writer: The way a certain distance has to be kept from the target sounds like a simulation game to me.

Q: Does “getting the enemy’s attention”mean raising the target’s enmity against you?
A: It will raise the value of how much the enemy views you as a threat.

Q: Do the gladiator and pugilist’s attention-getting skills vary in effectiveness?
A: The effectiveness varies on skills with similar functions. For example, your threat raise depends on other factors, as well. The ability to control threat is a very important part of the game. Characters will need to figure out through trial and error when is the best time, in what situation, to use what move.

Editor: Maybe we’ll even see bonuses for higher ground?! (Elevation has been confirmed to not be a factor in battle ?Manly) Or maybe a taunt move would be more effective after a weapon skill!
Writer: This isn’t K-1 fighting! (He laughs)

Q: Does guarding need to be entered as a command or does it happen automatically?
A: Both. You can use the “guard”command to manually use your shield, or a character skilled with shields will sometimes raise their shield and block an enemy’s attack before even realizing it.

Writer: I’m personally looking forward to using the “guard”command!
Editor: Guarding against an enemy’s incoming weapon skill with a sword sounds awesome.

Q: How are hand-to-hand and close-melee range different?
A: They’re about the same. These two different “ranges”are more about how the attacks work than the range. For example, as far as defense goes, a close-melee fighter can defend himself from physical attacks with armor and a shield, but a hand-to-hand fighter would use evasive maneuvers to protect himself. Attack changes in a similar fashion.

Q: Do enemies also gain TP?
A: Yes, they have many different ways to gain TP, and some types of enemies can become more deadly the longer you fight them.

Editor: Oh man¡ what do they mean by many ways to gain TP? What could they mean besides getting TP landing attacks and getting hit?
Writer: Maybe they have skills to increase or decrease their TP in a short amount of time.

Q: Do you have to remain still when casting magic?
A: There will a number of spells you can cast while moving.

Editor: In FFXI you had to be still as the grave to cast spells. It’s so cool that you can cast while moving in FFXIV!
Writer: I’m sure you won’t be able to use really powerful spells while moving, though. Maybe just spells that effect movement, or weaker spells.

Writer: WOW! Look at that screenshot! That’s amazing! The adventurer has a last name?
Editor: What, THAT’S the first thing that caught your eye?! This is a screenshot from the alpha version of the game, and it looks like a few things have changed since Germany’s Gamescom.
Writer: There’s a minimap on the top right of the screen. The red dots are enemies, and I guess the green dots are NPCs or something. You can see pretty far using this map.
Editor: I wonder if the icon for Chiretsuzen (the ability charging to the right of the player) represents its elemental property.
Writer: Don’t you think each individual ability will have its own icon?
Editor: The action menu shows a lot of icons, too. The chat window is also tabbed for general and battle, so it looks like you can switch between chat and battle messages.
Writer: The battle messages are really detailed!
Editor: It even lists where the attack are coming from, like “attacked from behind.”Writer: I want to see this in action!
Editor: If the battles look this good, I can’t wait to have some of my own!

*This battle screen is from the game still under development and may change depending on user feedback during the ffxiv beta.

Gladiator Q and A

Q: Gladiators are said to be able to become a “light-equipped soldier by taking off their shield.”What kinds of differences are there when a shield is equipped and when one is not?
A: When a shield is not equipped, there will be merits added to attack skill since defense is abandoned. Moreover, there are abilities you can use only when a shield is equipped, as well as shield-oriented weapon skills.

Q: What is the difference between slashing and piercing?
A: The effect will be different depending on the type of enemy. This is still under adjustment, but maybe slashing would be effective against exposed enemies, and piercing for enemies covered with shells or armor. Slashing tends to give more damage and piercing is inclined to have higher accuracy.

Q: It is said that gladiators are good at piercing, slashing, and defending. Does it mean that there are three buttons like “thrust-button,”"slashing-button,”and “defend-button”that we need to choose every turn?
A: These different types of attacks can be selected through commands each action.

Q: Almost all the classes seem to have weapons good for long-distance attack. Do gladiators not have them?
A: We are looking into throwing sword mechanics for them.

Marauder Q & A

Q: By charging his power, a marauder can change the area-of-effect of his attack, but does this apply to all attacks, or just the regular attack and certain weapon skills?
A: Charging will only affect the area-of-effect for regular attacks, but it will have other effects on certain weapon skills.

Q: Will actions like moving be unavailable while charging?
A: The second the marauder moves, the power he charged will be lost.

Q: The skill “disorient”kicks up a cloud of sand, but what about places where there is no sand?
A: It’s possible to use it, but the effect will change.

Q: Will the “fracture”ability add a status effect that makes weapon skills unusable, or does it only stop weapon skills the enemy is about to use?
A: It is a status effect.

Q: “Brandish”and “iron tempest”seem similar. Is the elemental property all that is different about the two attacks?
A: Not only the elemental property, but the shape and size of the area effect are different, among other differences.

Archer Q & A

Q: Do crossbows exist?
A: Not at this point, but if they appear later, it may be a different class that uses them.

Q: How many arrows can an archer carry around?
A: We’re still working on that. There are other things an archer can do when they run out of arrows.

Q: Can archers make their own arrows?
A: Only disciples of hand can craft, but if an archer levels up their crafting skill, they may be able to craft arrows to a certain extent somewhere down the line.

Q: Do you spend multiple arrows when using skills like “replenish?”A: Yes. For example, if you use 10 arrows for “quick nock,”and there are three enemies in range, you hit two of them with three arrows each and one of them with four, and damage is done accordingly.

Q: Will the “shrieker”move make any enemy run, or is it only useable on enemies who are in ffxiv battle?
A: It doesn’t necessarily work on all enemies, but it will work even when enemies are in passive mode.

Conjurer Q & A

Q: It sounds like the conjurer’s surroundings affect his magic, but what kind of effects does it have? Are they positive, negative, or both?
A: We’re working on that right now.

Q: The conjurer’s spells, shock spikes aside, say they affect “enemies within an area.”Does it mean it can attack multiple enemies within the area?
A: Most magic has an area-of-effect, and they attack all enemies within the area at the same time. The best way to use this is to gather a lot of enemies inside the area. This is how the game is being designed.

Q: Do spells like “protect”also work on all allies in the area?
A: Of course, you can cast this on all your allies in the spell’s area-of-effect.

Q: Do elements have effects on monsters, too?
A: Monsters also have elemental properties, so they, too, will be affected by elements.

Thaumaturge Q & A

Q: It says “thaumaturges boast the most powerful attack magic,”but what kind of power attack spells are there?
A: Yeah, we can’t really go into that right now. But there are spells that use TP and not MP. That’s all we can say at this point.

Q: Does “initiation”work on all party members?
A: No, just one selected party member.

Q: Does the “gravity”spell also lower an enemy’s evasion?
A: We’re still adjusting it, but that’s the plan right now.

Q: How “defeated”does an enemy have to be before you can steal its MP with “syphomage?”A: No HP. Completely defeated.

Q: Will “syphomage”have an effect on enemies with no MP?
A: No.

Pugilist Q and A

Q: Are the “offense”and “defense”stances like changing modes through abilities?
A: It’s one of the basic features of Pugilist which is determined by the place of effect gauge when you choose the command. When the stance is “offensive”, attack actions will be more effective, and when it is “defensive”, you will be better at defensive actions. By selecting the same stance a few times in a short time period, the stance will become more pronounced and you will gain special abilities.

Q: Chakra seems to consume TP, but can you adjust the effect by managing the amount of TP you consume?
A: The effect varies according to the amount of TP used. You can not choose the amount of consumption itself, but there are several levels.

Q: Why Pugilists can “steal?”A: I would like to make several possibilities for growth in each class. So, “steal”is example of how dexterity can be used in an immoral way.

Q: Will there be any effects on the damage done by tackle based on the distance covered, like increased damage?
A: The amount of damage will probably increase based on the length of the run while approaching.

Lancer Q and A

Q: It is said that Lancer can use “piercing”, “slashing”and “bludgeoning”attacks. Does this depend on the shape of the weapon, or can we select by choosing commands like Gladiator?
A: At first you can only use “piercing,”but as you level up, you will learn “slashing”and “bludgeoning”attacks. There will be some actions that depend on the shape of the weapon.

Q: Does ¡±attracting the enemy”means physically pulling them closer?
A: It means to draw them closer to you naturally or by using something.

Q: Can “overrun”only be used to close the gap between you and your enemy when it is not yet hostile to you, or can you use it anytime, like from behind an enemy during batte?
A: It is like rush and “sneak attack”for when the enemy is not in combat.

Miner’s role in the party

  • Miners can throw powerful stones. It can weaken mineral-attributed enemies.
  • Miners can earn additional income for the party in fields and dungeons.

Miner Q and A

Q: “Throw stones”is mentioned, but is that a miner’s only weapon?
A: At the moment yes, but maybe more things will come up.

Q: Only stones can mineral-attributed enemies?
A: It is still under adjustment, but we’re looking into other methods using items, not weapons. This is just an idea, but maybe something like pouring aqua regia, which can melt gold, onto golden enemy¡

Q: As for “earning additional income to the party,”if there is one miner in the party, does every member benefit from that?
A: Yes. A loot-splitting system is still under adjustment, but it’d be nice if a party could get more benefit the more miners it has. The party risks more danger in fights that way, though.

Q: Can only miners can see where you can mine?
A: In the present state of the game, yes.

Blacksmith’s role in a party.

  • Can weaken metal enemies and easily find metal-based loot from defeated enemies.
  • Can examine the condition of his allies’ weapons to keep them in tip-top shape during the battle

Blacksmith Q & A

Q; Will the blacksmith be able to check on his party’s weapons during ffxiv battle?
A: That’s actually something we’re trying to figure out now.

Q: Will the blacksmith be able to check his party members’ weapons without their consent?
A: Asking for permission each time the blacksmith wants to check weapons really seems like a pain, so we’d like to set it up where they won’t need consent, but privacy is also an issue. We’ll probably make it so permission is only needed once, and then the blacksmith can check the weapons at any time.

GDC 2010: New STO Playable Factions Will be Live

March 13th, 2010
New STO Playable Factions
According to the interview, seems that new STO Playable Factions will be live with us here! Then what factions would be coming? They aren’t sure yet, though Craig does admit many of the development team are interested in introducing Romulans to the game:
There’s a huge amount of the dev team right now interested in doing Romulan. I think the Borg would be really interesting as just something totally different, totally different gameplay. There are a lot of really cool mechanics, a lot of really cool things you can do there. Really, if you’re in the MMO for the long haul, there are going to be a lot more playable factions, you can’t stop with those two. There’s Jem’Hadar, you’re going to be going to the Dominion, there’s Cardassians […] so many playable factions that we can and will be releasing with the game.

Cryptic is looking at the next big update to arrive for Star Trek Online around July, with another possibly near November: “We know that we just had a player survey when you first arrive at the site, and, like, ship interiors. [Players] want a whole lot more there, want a whole lot more functionality, why are other players coming to my ship, what’s going on there? So we’re making sure in July that’s one of the things that we do. There’s a big huge outcry for first contact missions, diplomacy missions, more non-combat within Star Trek, so we’re really making sure with that July update we’re really focusing on that.”

It sounds like we can look for a lot of new content tailored to what the community wants coming with the July update, so we’ll be keeping a very close eye out for more information. (There was brief mention of the Horta being a playable race as well. We can only hope.)Ok, if you are also interested in the new STO Playable Factions, please pay attention to us, we would post the latest news here for you! PS: Unique sto energy credits is ready here for you with the lowest price and fastest delivery here. Gome to grab some and benefit more now!

Warhammer RvR Weapon Prices Lowered

March 4th, 2010

Cool, the prices of Warhammer RvR Weapon would be lowered here now. Official news said that Warhammer Online developers have announced that prices for the realm vs. realm weapons will be lowered after consideration of community feedback. Find out the details about the decision below:

One of the most anticipated features of Patch 1.3.4 was the introduction of new RvR weapons. Over the course of testing, concerns were voiced by members of the community regarding the costs of the weapons. As a development team, we made assurances that the costs would be watched and adjusted if necessary. We’re now pleased to announce that after a great deal of analysis, discussion, and feedback, we’ve just reduced the costs of many of the RvR weapons, with a focus on the lower Renown Ranks.

image

The initial costs of the weapons were largely influenced by our review of a great deal of metrics. These included time taken to gain target Renown Ranks, average scenario queue time, average scenario completion time and ending scores, to name a few. Numbers are all well and good, however, a lesson that we’ve learned is that we can’t rely 100% on raw metrics - I’m sure you’re all familiar with the old saw about “lies, damn lies, and statistics”. Metrics are still one of the strongest tools in our arsenal and through them we came up with a solid starting cost point for the Warhammer RvR Weapons. Over the course of PTS we gathered more data, and continued to do so once 1.3.4 went live. This data was not just from metrics but from a variety of sources, including community feedback and of course our own personal play experiences. What we determined is that a number of the RvR weapons did indeed cost too much, and we’re sure you’ll agree that this adjusted cost structure is a better solution.

So it is good time to get some WAR RvR Weapons with the lower price now! Are you still looking for warhammer gold ? Well, you come into the right place, we have plenty gold in warhammer, and we provide warhammer power leveling service as well. If you are interested in them., just come here and place an order now.

Aion Patch 1.9 Announced

March 4th, 2010

Hu hu~ Aion Patch 1.9 Announced here! According to the official Aion community, some “secretive meeting notes” from a recent team meeting between NCsoft’s European and American offices posted on the official Aion website reveal a number of the additions players can expect to see in Aion’s 1.9 update.

Check out the original announcement here:

Greetings folks,

As some of our more observant followers noticed, a top secret, critical meeting just took place between our European and North American offices. This meeting was held in parallel with a press conference with over 60 invited journalists that took place at the same time in NCsoft’s Korean headquarters.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a transcript of the meeting to share. Security precautions for the meeting were aggressive?including the use of lava pits and muscular bulls?which made leaking the information during the meeting an uninviting option. The objective of the meeting was to nail down the patch notes of the upcoming version Aion 1.9 patch.

We don’t know whether it was because of our tactful dialogue with the parties involved, our supreme abilities of persuasion, or perhaps Kinslon’s affinity for chocolate, but we were able to procure permission to publish some highlights about what was discussed in spite of the meeting’s confidential nature.

•     New skills for every class (including new skills specifically for countering stun attacks)

•     Dozens of daily quests with different objectives and rewards

•     New quests, increased quest rewards, and increased instance drop rates

•     Dredgion enhancements

•     Max item enchantment increased to +15

•     An increase in experience gain (including a new experience bonus system:  Energy of Salvation)

•     Soul Healing, Soul Binding, and Flight Transportation cost decreases

•     A mechanic that allows two two-handed weapons to be combined to create one more powerful two-handed weapon

•     Looking for group (LFG) functionality improvements

•     Numerous user interface improvements

Stay tuned, and make sure to grab the tentative patch notes (far exceeding 20 pages in length) when they’re published later this week.

Fly safe, Daevas,

Aion 1.9 Patch Notes for the update, which are being described as exceeding 20 pages in length, will be available sometime later this week. Stay tuned! If you wanna buy some professional, safe and cheap aion kinah with fast delivery, come here and grab now, we promise to offer the most favorable price for you! See you then.

WoW Tanks and the Barrier to Entry

March 4th, 2010

This is all about WoW Tanks and the Barrier to Entry here. Now if you are still confused about the Barrier to Entry, and wanna know more about it, here is the best guide for you.

It comes as no shock to a longtime player that WoW’s social culture is riddled with a number of real-life counterparts, and one of the more troublesome is something called the barrier to entry. In real life, this refers to the difficulty of becoming a qualified professional in a given field, and there are some jobs where the barrier to entry is very high indeed.

Take neurosurgery, for example. Ideally, you want to be completely sure of someone’s aptitude for the job before you let them take a buzzsaw to your skull. Society relies on the grueling education and residency required to be a neurosurgeon to weed out anyone prone to use of the word, “Oops.”

While there’s nothing in WoW that comes close to the seriousness of getting a competent surgeon, most players would acknowledge that there are similarities between the RL and in-game version of the “barrier to entry.” I’d argue that the comparison is strongest when you’re discussing tanks. Tanks, and more importantly, beginner tanks who could potentially ease the tank shortage that causes lengthy queue times for DPS in the Dungeon Finder, have to hurdle a series of problems in the effort to become geared and experienced. Some of these problems are the result of deliberate design choices on Blizzard’s part, but the larger share is the consequence of a playerbase that needs tanks but is (ironically) hostile to beginners.

Everyone wants an experienced professional. Nobody wants to be there for the learning process.

And if you’re a beginner tank, there’s a lot of crap in your way that Blizzard didn’t put there.

What is the tank’s “barrier to entry?”

The combination of gear and experience required to tank content without threat-capping DPS, straining the healer, or endangering the group’s survivability.

While a similar barrier to entry exists for DPS in advanced content (e.g. DPS players unable to surpass 1.5K DPS are not likely to clear heroic Halls of Reflection), it’s difficult to argue that the group/raid suffers more than it would with an undergeared and inexperienced tank. A fresh DPS at 80 can jump into heroics without seriously affecting a group’s chance of success, or having any measurable impact on the run beyond the speed with which mob packs die.

Essentially, a DPS player’s gear and experience largely affect the efficiency of a run, whereas a tank player’s gear and experience affects its efficiency, ease, and odds of success.

Why is the barrier to entry a problem?

In some respects, it’s not. Very few players want someone with a limited understanding of the role tanking any of the game’s more difficult content, and a beginner tank who fails to appreciate the job’s stat requirements is unlikely to advance beyond the 5-man level (and may very well wipe groups even there). These hurdles exist in part to distinguish committed players from those who do the job merely for the convenience it affords them in the Dungeon Finder, and that’s good design.

However, the wow barrier to entry is problematic in that it limits the supply of available tanks. There are a number of skilled and experienced druids, warriors, death knights, and paladins who could conceivably tank but don’t, usually for one or more of the following reasons:

GEAR

Being immune to mob and boss critical hits is a big deal, and rightly so. Bears have an advantage with 3/3 Survival of the FIttest guaranteeing crit immunity, but plate tanks have to assemble a set of gear with specific stats. Being crit-immune is virtually mandatory even for the earliest heroics, and this typically requires an oft-expensive investment in crafted +defense gear. So before the tank even sets foot in a heroic, they will have to spend time and gold ensuring their stats meet the minimum acceptable threshold for survivability.

THREAT

Threat is inextricably linked to the quality of the tank’s gear, and it’s also less straightforward than either damage or healing. If you get a 9K crit on a mob, you did 9K damage to them. Healing Wave hitting for 15K heals a player for that amount (or whatever it took to get them to full). By contrast, how much threat an ability produces on your target is not immediately obvious due to threat modifiers altering how much threat your abilities actually generate.

New tanks worry (and rightly so) about holding aggro against DPS while they’re gearing up. The need to reach the +defense cap is an overriding early concern in a period where DPS will be piling up more spell power, attack power, hit, and crit.

PULLING

There’s an art and finesse to a good pull that requires a player to know a dungeon, mobs, and mob pathing intimately — and it’s easy to botch this even if you’ve seen the dungeon many times as a DPS or healer. You have to know what mobs are in each pull, the abilities at their disposal and the effect they have, where caster mobs can be coaxed to move if you can’t silence them (a particular bear irritant), and the most opportune moments for a stun or silence.

In the age of AoE, you also need to know how to salvage a pull that goes badly for reasons that have nothing to do with you. DPS frequently opens up on mobs that aren’t yet positioned, with the unhappy result of ranged mobs stopping in their tracks to shoot back, or melee enemies peeling off you in search of a tasty-looking clothie.

RAID AWARENESS

If you stand in fire, you shouldn’t be tanking. When does the mob drop an AoE? Do you know where you can move the enemy without ranging your healer? Is your computer able to get through your character being in the middle of boss attacks and player spells for an extended period of time?

ANTICIPATION

This one is tough to explain, but I’ll try to gloss it; a good tank is often recognizable in what doesn’t happen to the group as a result of the decisions they make. They’ve had sufficient experience to know which mob packs are frequently pulled by accident, and they save interrupts for the mob abilities that really count. They reroute the group (generally without overtly acknowledging this) to avoid trouble, look ahead to see if a pathing mob is likely to aggro in the middle of another group, and save their stuns and interrupts for the Ahn’kahar Spell Flinger charging up a Shadow Blast, an Anub’ar Skirmisher at the moment they drop aggro, and the Ghostly Priest beginning a Dark Mending.

A tank who anticipates player behavior (and can swiftly compensate for their own mistakes) is all about the wipes that won’t happen, and the group will leave the dungeon none the wiser.

PLAYER ATTITUDES

Out of all the barriers to entry, I would submit that the need to deal with players who are hostile to beginning tanks is the single most painful — and unfortunately intractable — issue. All of the aforementioned requirements are things that come with enough time and practice, but tanks have little control over others’ reactions to the learning process.

Most healers don’t find beginning tanks all that difficult to heal if both players are sensibly geared (even if the gear in question is mostly blues). But a tank outgeared by his/her DPS will find it virtually impossible to hold threat (particularly AoE threat) against them, even if the tank’s rotation is absolutely perfect. Understandably, most players are reluctant to put themselves in situations where failure is preordained. They’re equally reluctant (and who can blame them?) to shoulder the abuse that often occurs when this happens.

Cataclysm stat changes and the future of tank population

The upcoming changes to tank crit immunity (which should automatically occur after shifting to Frost Presence, Defensive Stance, etc.) are directly aimed at reducing the barrier to entry by removing one of the more onerous gearing requirements for plate tanks. While I was initially hopeful that a similar change to Survival of the Fittest (in patch 3.0.2) would result in more bear tanks, I was unsettled to see a dramatic decline in druid tanks when Wrath hit. Druids have it easier than any other tank when it comes to satisfying this first and most important requirement, and yet they remain among the less-played tanks. To remove the necessity to gear for crit immunity is apparently not enough to encourage the population growth of a tank spec.

Blizzard has worked hard to remove many of the issues that made tanking an unattractive job for players (to the point of designing a hero class with unprecedented flexibility concerning spec and talent choice), but I can’t help but think that the larger share of responsibility for tank population ultimately lies with players.

Everyone wants more tanks to queue in the Dungeon Finder, but the ugly reaction that often greets a beginner actively works against the likelihood of DPS players getting groups more quickly. The game is meant to be fun, and it’s not fun for a newbie tank to wade through a sea of impatient players in the effort to get gear that will allow them to be humiliated less often. Rather than the positive reinforcement of doing more damage or healing more efficiently, a new tank’s real desire is to avoid being kicked over a low gear score or abused for failing to hold aggro against better-geared DPS. They can do this eventually with better gear — or they can avoid it entirely by not queuing at all.

Be kind to your newbie tanks, my fellow players. At some point down the line, the time you save may be your own.

So here have you got all the info about the tanks and the Barrier to Entry now? Are you in the trouble with lack of enough wow gold in the process of the game? Huh, we possess tons of cheap wow gold, if you need some indeed, come to us and we will fix the best price and deliver it as soon as possible for you! So we are your best choice, come here now.
